Help! I have just lost my data - files/photos

Companies and businesses spend a lot of money on keeping backups of their data because it is very important for them.

How important is your data – files/photos?

An article in computer active number 735 authored a good article. If you are interested in a free method not using Microsoft or Google read their article number 735.
“Backing up your computer might not seem like fun. But it’s one of the most important jobs you can do. That’s because your data is infinitely more valuable than the computer itself. Think about it. If your computer is stolen, you can buy or borrow another, even if it’s second-hand. But if you lose your financial records, you might not be able to complete your tax return. If you lose your E tickets, you might not be able to go on holiday. But if you lose a lifetime’s worth of photos, you’ll be heartbroken. Some things can just be replaced. Which is why you need to make sure you have at least one duplicate of everything that matters somewhere safe. This is particularly true if you’re an active computer user. So, what’s the best way to establish a backup routine without spending a lot of money? On hardware subscriptions and cloud storage.”

There are different ways to back up your data. For individuals the best is the 3-2-1 method. Or more expensive a Network-Attached Storage (NAS) drive.

The 3-2-1 backup rule is a foundational data protection strategy that advises keeping 3 total copies of your data, stored on 2 different types of media, with 1 copy kept off-site to prevent total data loss from disasters or cyberattacks.

If you use Microsoft OneDrive or Goole Drive these would be your off-site copy.

Don’t be caught out by losing data that holds precious memories or hard work and time you’ve spent on your projects or work.
